Privacy Policy — Halal Food Fest

This Privacy Policy describes how the Al-Rahmah School Educational Trust (“ASET”, “we”, “us”) handles information in connection with the Halal Food Fest website (halalfoodfest.org) and the Halal Food Fest mobile app for iOS and Android (together, the “Services”).

Summary

  • The mobile app does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email, or any other personal details.
  • If you allow notifications, the app stores an anonymous device token so we can send event announcements. That token is not linked to your identity.
  • The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to measure aggregate usage (e.g. screens viewed, buttons tapped) so we can improve it. This is not tied to your identity.
  • Tickets, merchandise purchases, and sign-up forms are handled by third-party services (Eventbrite, Shopify, and our form provider); we never see or store your payment details.

Information the mobile app collects

Push notification token. If you grant notification permission, the app registers an anonymous Expo push notification token with our server so we can send event-day announcements (for example, gate opening or the fireworks time). The token identifies your device installation only — it is not connected to your name, email, location, or any other personal information. Tokens are deleted after they expire or when the notification service reports the app has been uninstalled.

Usage analytics. The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand, in aggregate, how the app is used — for example which screens are viewed and how many people tap “Get Tickets” or “Donate.” This helps us improve the app and plan the festival. Analytics records app activity and a Firebase installation identifier, and Google may derive a coarse (city-level) location from your IP address. It is not tied to your name or contact details, and we do not use it to identify you individually.

Nothing else. The app has no accounts, no sign-in, and no advertising SDKs. It does not access your precise location, contacts, camera, photos, or microphone. Event reminders are scheduled locally on your device. The app downloads public festival content (vendor, sponsor, and FAQ listings) from our website; these requests do not include personal information.

Third-party services

Some features open or embed third-party services. Information you provide to them is governed by their own privacy policies:

  • Eventbrite — ticket purchases open in your browser on eventbrite.com (privacy policy).
  • Shopify — the merch shop is provided by Shopify; checkout opens in your browser (privacy policy).
  • Vendor / sponsor / volunteer forms — hosted on our form system at alrahmahtrust.org; the information you enter (name, business details, contact information) is used only to process your application.
  • ExpoFP — the interactive festival floor plan (privacy policy).
  • Apple Maps / Google Maps / Google Earth — map, directions, and 3D preview features use your platform’s mapping services under their own terms.
  • Google Analytics for Firebase — aggregate app-usage analytics (privacy policy).

Information the website collects

  • Analytics. The website uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate site usage (pages visited, approximate region, device type). The mobile app uses Google Analytics for Firebase for the same purpose (see “Usage analytics” above).
  • Forms. Information submitted through contact, vendor, sponsor, or volunteer forms is used solely to respond to your inquiry or process your application, and is not sold or shared with third parties for marketing.
  • Newsletter. If you subscribe, your email address is stored with our email provider (Mailchimp) and used only for festival updates. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
  • Security. Our hosting and security tools (e.g., firewall software) may log IP addresses to protect the site from abuse.

Children

The Services are family-friendly and directed at a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The mobile app does not ask anyone for personal details such as name, email, or contact information.

Data retention and deletion

Push notification tokens are retained only while needed to send event announcements and are periodically pruned. To have your device token removed immediately, disable notifications for the app in your device settings (the token becomes invalid), or contact us. Form submissions are retained as needed to run the festival.

Your choices

  • You can use the entire app without granting notification permission.
  • You can revoke notification permission at any time in iOS or Android settings.
  • You can request access to or deletion of information you submitted through our forms by contacting us.
